Week Update

Another week has come and gone, though this one has been a bit more uneventful. I have gotten settled into life at the Mirkaz. I have a normal routine, just like I would have in Oregon, although with add bonuses. Every day a fruit truck drives up and sells fresh fruit to us right outside our building. This is amazing. What is a little weird is that they also have a chicken truck. Which also drives up, but to make its presence known, has a loud speaker playing a recording of a rooster and then sells eggs and other chicken products right off the truck! Continued...

The first week we got here at the Mirkaz we set up a carnival for the children. This was a great way to introduce us to their small community and have some with the super cute kids here. We had a bunch of different booths, face paints, beading, ball throwing, and of course nail painting… just guess which I helped out with!

We have been doing fun things around Be’er Sheva too. Every Thursday morning there is a Bediun shouk, which is just a huge marketplace. We went really early this morning; so early that Jeramie got roped into helping set up! The shouk was really cool. Everything there was so cheap. I got a skirt and these neat shoes for a great deal, and then Jeramie and I bought a hookah for a bit over 10 dollars! And it’s huge!

I took the bus for the first time last weekend. We had to get back from Jerusalem and the bus is really the best way to do it. So we all bit our lips and showed up at the central bus station and hopped aboard. We arrived safely in Be’er Sheva, the only misshape being that I was sitting next to a slightly chubby women and was missing half my seat. In Be’er Sheva, my friend Jessie and I decided to take the city bus home too for kicks. It is quite the adrenaline rush!

Jess must download this tune:
"Breakdown" by Handsomeboy Modeling School (it features Jack Johnson) and I know she is going to love it.
